Coming Back To One

Fellow Yummy Mummy, Dona Tumacder-Esteban will be conducting a yoga retreat in Bahay Kalipay this September. I remember the days where we would be selling on bazaars together selling our all-natural baby products with our babies in our slings the whole day.

We, together with Yummy Mummy Denise, also came out on TV together, guesting on Kris Aquino's noontime show (yes, still with the babies in slings & pouches!). Those were the full-on breastfeeding and attachment parenting days! Now that Santi is 4 years old and her little Carmen is weaning, we both have more freedom to practice our yoga and do retreats :)

See the full itinerary below. Please click on photo to enlarge for more details.

If you decide to come this September, you are sure to see me as I will be assisting her in the retreat. Great way to celebrate my birthday month! See you all there xoxo

What's The Hurry?

Santi and classmates play in the sandbox of Karawatan Waldorf School
One of the things I learned in the Waldorf/Steiner philosophy on raising children is to SAVE THEIR CHILDHOOD. Nowadays, very young children are exposed to all kinds of electronic media (television shows, internet on the laptops, games on the Ipad, etc) that they never learn what REAL PLAY is all about. You see this everywhere, at home and in the malls. Children are given the TV or the Ipad so that they can 'behave' and sit still. I've heard so many moms confess to me, "TV is the best babysitter, so you can have time to do whatever you need to do!" Did you ever ask yourself what happens to their brains when they are paralyzed by TV, not moving (which is what they are supposed to be doing at this stage!)

In my own home or when he is at a Waldorf school, Santi is free to explore and be creative in his play.

I have difficulty explaining all of this to friends or reminding my own family to turn off the tube or the  Samsung Galaxy Tab :P That is why I am so happy to announce another talk hosted by the Kolisko Waldorf School. I hope that all of YOU come to learn WHY.

"What's The Hurry? WHY & HOW We Can Help Kids Enjoy Their Childhood"
A talk on the Development Stages of the Child in the Perspective of Waldorf/Steiner Philosophy

Just This Weekend

Spent another weekend harnessing energies from the cosmos, facilitating a Yoga Dance Retreat in Bahay Kalipay. We did our daily dose of yoga in Bahay Kalipay and Nagtabon beach, we danced to our inner rhythms through the Inner Dance conducted by Pi Villaraza, and of course nourished our bodies with the flavorful Raw Vegan Live Food dishes by Daniw Arazola.

Cosmic Consiousness

In my stillness, I am the eternal possibility,
In my movement, I am the cosmos

Knitting is Addicting

Before moving to Palawan, I bought some craft materials (one of them was knitting needles and yarn) but I never really followed through with the knitting projects because so many things got into the way. And yeah, I found crocheting easier to do as well.

easy crochet headpiece (with real flowers from my garden!) one lazy afternoon

see me wearing it

I recently relearned the art of knitting from Teacher Malou of the St. Michael's Playgarden. In the Parent Toddler classes, they teach the mothers how to make simple crafts while their little tots play along. Apparently, children play better when you are doing something meaningful (cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc). Teacher Malou was showing me how to make one of the hand-made toys, a chicken. However, I didn't get too far with it during those 2 sessions we had together. Before leaving Manila, I bought this beautiful multi-colored yarn in Dreams Glorietta 5 and decided to practice on a basic scarf. I can always do the chicken again later with her.

They say knitting is very good because it increases left and right brain interaction. You need two hands to knit so it balances the brain equally-- just like Yoga does. Oh and of course, it also puts you in a meditative state. I found a very interesting blog article on left & right brain activities for a stress-free mom here.

For those of you who aren't coming to FLOW Surf Yoga Samba's FLOW GOES RAW retreat, you might as well attend Bella Tan's workshop on Basic Knitting below.

P.S. The Early Waldorf Childhood training of Bella Tan taught Denise how to make these cute little kittens. Made with loooove. Our gift to the beautiful Cat Juan-Ledesma and hubby Carlo Ledesma on their wedding day :)

Happy Feast Day of the Assumption!

Today is August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. A good quarter of my life was spent in Assumption San Lorenzo, Makati from nursery all the way to college (with a few schools in between!)

Here are some photos I dug up of my early years in AC...

Find your little self, amigas! I am on the 2nd seated row with bangs :)

Mom, where were these cupcakes from?

I tower above my younger siblings- Diana & RJ. Kim you were still non-existent then hehe

Look at the same Santi smirk on my face!
I particularly chose this period to remind me that I am consciously shaping my own Santiago's formative years. One day he will also look back to his early childhood pictures (in Palawan) with fond memories with his Mommy & Daddy :)

A Course on Waldorf Education

If you have the time and the funds, I urge you to take part in this life changing module training, not just for your children but for your own SELF. I remember attending one workshop at Kolisko Waldorf School in QC years ago where Bella Tan spoke on the Development of the Child and the ill effects of TV and other forms of Electronic Media on them... I was a Waldorf parent convert after listening to her very valid reasons and engaging stories of her very own life experiences with her children.

I do believe that we are drawn to people who vibrate the same frequency as you do, or maybe higher so that you may aspire to reach up, to EVOLVE. So, if this message sparks a light inside you, please read on and sign up!
