Healthy Eats: Vegiezzen

I feel like I have been living under a rock. Why haven't I eaten here before?

One nanny-less day, I drove myself here to try out their food for take home. Background story: on weekends, we let our helpers at home rest and we usually order or eat out. Due to very limited healthy restaurants and me turning (almost) vegetarian, I have gone searching high and low for more choices suitable to my lighter diet around the city.

On that fateful day, I struck gold! Affordable healthy eats so close to home. Wee!

I've decided to become a loyal customer ever since.

The restaurant is located across Ocean Sky Monastery in Little Baguio, San Juan.

You can find many vegan food products on this shelf and fridge. For unskilled cooks like myself, these products can help make food tastier at home!

Here is their menu...

Scary looking gigantic jars contain their hard-to-get enzyme drink and other vegetables which they use in their dishes. I have asked if the ezyme drink was available twice already but, sadly, I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

Since food orders are quite affordable, I'm happy to sample 3 variants at a time, yay! :) I love their veggiezen fried rice and beancurd roll. My kids are happy to eat these, too!

Susi: 100% Vegan and Gluten-Free

My partners and I at FLOW like trying out healthy eats around the metro for our weekly meetings. Susi is one of the posh newer Vegan and Gluten-Free restaurants and we just had to try it!

The interiors are quite cool. I didn't get to take a photo of the bathroom which I thought was decorated so well for its small size.

For travelers like myself, this was a lesson plan.

Philippine-made bamboo bike hanging

For appetizers we had the Moby Dip (315php), a three-dip platter of olive tapenade, sun-dried tomato and pesto on GF bread.

More GF bread, please!?

Yummers!

We ordered the El Chimichurri beet burger (475php) because I have this goal of trying out all the veggie burgers in the world. This was good, very filling. Loved the side of potato wedges, too!

You can ask them to slice the burger in 1/2 if you're sharing!
This is The Emerson (495php) which is a baked lentil mushroom loaf with zuchini-aubergine ratatoille and mashed potatoes. Wasn't too impressed with this one.
Looks like meat though, right?
And then there's Carb-No-Nara (425php), GF gettucini with mushroom 'bacon', roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes and capers. I'm not too fond of regular carbonara so this didn't fancy me either.

You may also purchase healthy GF ingredients from their pantry shop!

My final verdict? It's probably one of the healthiest restaurants in the city, I'll give it that. Would I eat here again? Most definitely! But truthfully, not as often as I would like to because it can get pricey. This is a place to reserve for a special treat. Now, how to charm my husband to eat vegan food?! :)

Pass the Hemp Rub, Please!

What does a Yoga teacher keep in his/her bag everyday?

A muscle rub, of course! Practicing and teaching yoga daily can definitely make your whole body sore. This is everyday salvation, if you ask me (and almost all the yogis of the world!) Aside from lathering onto my own aching body parts like my neck, shoulders and lower back, I also apply it on my students and treat them to a short massage at the very end of the class during Savasana...if they're lucky enough to be in a manageable class size, time-wise!

Enter the Merry Hempsters. These two little fellas as currently a craze among my co-teachers and students at the studio!

So, what's so the big fuss about these Merry Hempsters Muscle Rub Tubes?

- Size is super handy, they fit in my make up kit
- Because of its unique packaging (like a bigger lipbalm), hygiene is no longer an issue
- Made from Organic Hemp Seed Oil with is high in essential fatty acids and contains anti-inflammatory properties
- It's all natural, containing organic ingredients and vegan as well!

The Merry Hempsters website recommends that you use the organic tube as a therapeutic rub for sore muscles, overexertion, inflamed joints and congestion. I like the minty sensation from this tube. The cooling effect is definitely soothing after a work out!

INGREDIENTS
Apis mellifera (Bees) Wax, Organic Cannabis sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Organic Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Oil), Mentha arvensis (Menthol) Crystals ,(Essential Oils of: Eucalyptus globules (Eucalyptus), Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Leaf, Mentha viridis (Spearmint), , Mentha piperita (Peppermint), Gaultheria procumbens (Wintergreen), Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove), and Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary), Non-GMO d-alpha Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract

The Merry Hempsters have a special HOT blend which combines organic hemp seed oil with the heating agent cassia for an analgesic effect. Camphor and organic menthol crystals offer immediate relief for aching muscles and joints. May also be used for reducing pain and inflammation associated with sore muscles, strains, overexertion, inflamed joints, and congestion. I would use this  after a more serious work out... like a powerful Vinyasa class or Beyond Sculpt!

INGREDIENTS
Organic Cannabis sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Euphorbia cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Organic Olea europaea (Olive) or Organic Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Oil), (Essential Oils of : Melaleuca minor (Cajeput), Cinnamomum cassia (Cassia), Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus), Mentha piperita (Peppermint), Betula nigra (Sweet Birch), Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove ), Thymus vulgaris (Thyme), Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary)), Mentha arvensis (Menthol) Crystals, Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor) Crystals, Non-GMO d-alpha Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract

The Vegetarian Kitchen

Not too far from Beyond Yoga Il Terrazo studio is a little nook called The Vegetarian Kitchen, a cruel-free restaurant that is operated by the Soliongco family.

My first time dining here was with FLOW co-founders, Denise and Noelle. We got to try the Rich Tomato Malunggay Lasagna, Cream Cheese Spinach Dumplings, Couscous Paella, Vegan Apple Pie and Calamansi Mint Tea. Everything was superb! If I could cook and bake like they do, I'm sure my husband wouldn't mind turning vegetarian :P
