Coming Back To One

 

Fellow Yummy Mummy, Dona Tumacder-Esteban will be conducting a yoga retreat in Bahay Kalipay this September. I remember the days where we would be selling on bazaars together selling our all-natural baby products with our babies in our slings the whole day.

We, together with Yummy Mummy Denise, also came out on TV together, guesting on Kris Aquino's noontime show (yes, still with the babies in slings & pouches!). Those were the full-on breastfeeding and attachment parenting days! Now that Santi is 4 years old and her little Carmen is weaning, we both have more freedom to practice our yoga and do retreats :)

What's The Hurry?

 One of the things I learned in the Waldorf/Steiner philosophy on raising children is to SAVE THEIR CHILDHOOD. Nowadays, very young children are exposed to all kinds of electronic media (television shows, internet on the laptops, games on the Ipad, etc) that they never learn what REAL PLAY is all about. You see this everywhere, at home and in the malls. Children are given the TV or the Ipad so that they can 'behave' and sit still. I've heard so many moms confess to me, "TV is the best babysitter, so you can have time to do whatever you need to do!" Did you ever ask yourself what happens to their brains when they are paralyzed by TV, not moving (which is what they are supposed to be doing at this stage!)

In my own home or when he is at a Waldorf school, Santi is free to explore and be creative in his play.

I have difficulty explaining all of this to friends or reminding my own family to turn off the tube or the  Samsung Galaxy Tab :P That is why I am so happy to announce another talk hosted by the Kolisko Waldorf School. I hope that all of YOU come to learn WHY.

Just This Weekend

Spent another weekend harnessing energies from the cosmos, facilitating a Yoga Dance Retreat in Bahay Kalipay. We did our daily dose of yoga in Bahay Kalipay and Nagtabon beach, we danced to our inner rhythms through the Inner Dance conducted by Pi Villaraza, and of course nourished our bodies with the flavorful Raw Vegan Live Food dishes by Daniw Arazola.

Knitting is Addicting

Before moving to Palawan, I bought some craft materials (one of them was knitting needles and yarn) but I never really followed through with the knitting projects because so many things got into the way. And yeah, I found crocheting easier to do as well.

I recently relearned the art of knitting from Teacher Malou of the St. Michael's Playgarden. In the Parent Toddler classes, they teach the mothers how to make simple crafts while their little tots play along. Apparently, children play better when you are doing something meaningful (cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc). Teacher Malou was showing me how to make one of the hand-made toys, a chicken. However, I didn't get too far with it during those 2 sessions we had together. Before leaving Manila, I bought this beautiful multi-colored yarn in Dreams Glorietta 5 and decided to practice on a basic scarf. I can always do the chicken again later with her.

They say knitting is very good because it increases left and right brain interaction. You need two hands to knit so it balances the brain equally-- just like Yoga does. Oh and of course, it also puts you in a meditative state. I found a very interesting blog article on left & right brain activities for a stress-free mom here.
